DUST
The atmospheric quality of motes of graphite powder and ground charcoal captivate. The weightless, barely–there nature of the tiny granules offer subtleties of control and the necessity, sometimes, to suspend breath momentarily. They have a collective power and individual fragility that allows me to explore their potential for describing emotional form.
Most recently I have used them as 'temporary' drawings that can only be partially fixed – their resolution as a drawing is only when the paper is tipped up allowing the dust to fall off. Perhaps the 'real' drawing is the stain that then remains.
Charcoal on paper.
